Flocking a Union

With the winter break right around the corner, signs of the many holidays celebrated this time of year abound — from the food to candle-lighting to the decorations. One of those oft-seen decorations includes a flocked tree, or trees decorated to look like they’re covered in snow.

With this week’s fireproofing, the steel in Aztec Student Union looks similar. Crews are spraying beams on each floor, from those supporting the decks to braces to columns.

There’s also the steel ties that hang from the ceiling beams, reminiscent of tinsel. Those ties will hold the ductwork for the HVAC system and will be hidden behind ceiling tiles.

With the green tarp wrap and the “flocked” beams, all the union needs now are some lights to complete the transformation.
