The footprint of Aztec Student Union continues to take shape this week, with the latest addition the walkway from the pedestrian bridge into the new building.
With a little imagination (okay, a lot of imagination), you can see where visitors will enter the new building from the east side of campus. Here’s a view of the entrance from the north, adjacent to College Avenue:
Speaking of pathways, the walkway near Manchester Hall will be expanded soon (or, if you’ve been away from campus this summer, returned to the width it was this spring). Here’s a working view of the walkway:
While steel erection is still more than a month away, Aztec Student Union is already showing some of its metal “skeleton” thanks to a beam erected in the middle of the project. The steel beam is the highest point on the site thus far.
Soon enough the basement work will be finished (for the time being, anyway), and give way to vertical progress. It certainly looks very basement-y, doesn’t it? The below view shows off just a portion of the basement, primarily the loading dock area.
For now, this blogger will leave you with a keyhole-view of the basement, vis a vis a piece of construction machinery.
